Adult Education
Pittsford Presbyterian has multiple opportunities for adults to explore and expand their faith. All are welcome! Here are the current offerings:
Sunday, 10:00am - Adult Sunday School
This class offers a variety of topics depending on the needs and interest of the participants. Recent studies have included a Serendipity Bible Study, exploration of Rick Warren's Purpose Driven Life book and discussions around a book by Philip Yancey. The group rotates study facilitators and meets in the Library.
Sunday, 11:30am - Confirmand Parents
Concurrent with the Confirmand Mentor time, the parents of our confirmation students gather to learn how to assist their son or daughter in the process of internalizing their faith. Parents review what their child is learning and then discuss ways to encourage them along the journey of confirming the promises of baptism.
Tuesday, 9:45am - Parenting Series
A group of parents meets to learn, discuss and support each other in the challenges of raising healthy, joyful and God-loving children. Currently we are basing discussions on various resources from week to week. Recent topics have centered around Rev. Boak's sermon about Jesus and the children, and the National Center for Biblical Parenting's "Parenting Tips" emails.
January 5 will kick-off a new DVD series that will be chosen in the early weeks of December.
Location is in the Youth Room on the second floor. Childcare is offered in the nursery.
Wednesday, 9:45am - Lectionary Bible Study
A group that studies a topic related to the next Sunday's sermon. Most of the year, our Pastors follow the Revised Common Lectionary. Teachers rotate between the two pastors and the Director of Christian Education. Location is Room 200.
Wednesday, 7:15pm - Lectionary Bible Study
Same as the morning study.
Various seminars and special studies.
Throughout the year, First Presbyterian Church invites speakers to Pittsford. In the recent past we have hosted theologian Donald McKim, storyteller Bill Jones, Walk Thru the Bible Seminars in the Old Testament and New Testament, Apologist Gary Habermas, and scholar/educator Rodger Nishioka.
